Swatch Stick Project *Pic Heavy

Hello everyone ๐Ÿ˜€

Today I have something really exciting to show you… Well it was really exciting for me hehe!

I bought a bunch of swatch sticks so that I could have an easy reference system for my polishes.

400 Swatch Sticks

400 Swatch Sticks

I started by getting all my polishes in 1 pile and over the weeks as a polish was swatched it would be packed away so that I didn’t swatch it again (Lets just say I did double swatch a few… Wasn’t impressed!)

Polish Chaos

Polish Chaos

I didn’t really have any pattern in my swatching process, I literally just pulled up random polishes and went for it.

Most of the swatch sticks are 2 coats except the glitters and the very translucent colours.

The Swatch Line

I did one coat on each let them dry and then started again. I had to leave them to dry overnight so they wouldn’t get damaged.

Colour Coding

Colour Coding

My all time favorite part of the whole project was colour coding the swatches. I only had 8 rings to work with so it was a challenge to sit and sort them. I am slightly OCD in the sense that everything has to be colour coded! Even my clothes & shoes are colour coded!

Glitter Swatches

What I love is now I can see what colours I need… For example I dont have any Black or White Glitter polishes… Now I need those lol! And I have very little Chunky Glitter polishes.

Black, Grey & Silver Swatches

Green, Yellow & Gold Swatches

Orange & Red Swatches

Pink Swatches

The project as a whole was really fun! I did it to help alleviate the clutter in my room, I now know what I have and where it is.

Someone asked me what is the purpose of the sticks if I dont do other peoples nails… Well it helps see what colours are similar and which colours compliment each other. It will help to decide what colours to use for nail art too.

Now each time I get a new polish (or polishes) I can swatch it and slot it in where it belongs.

How do you keep track of your polishes?

I have a spreadsheet on google docs (see here) but I also have a Nail polish app that catalogues polishes by brand and then colour (I’m still busy adding pics to it, see app here {This app is for Android phones}) & now the swatch sticks too.

Like I have said before, there is loads of admin linked to Nail art blogging, these tools just make it so much easier to manage it all!

I hope you enjoyed this and got a few tips & idea’s for your own collections!

Oh How it Glows

Day Time Look

Day Time Look

I have been obsessed with Glow in the Dark polish for ages! I love being able to see my nail art even if the lights are off.

A long while back I ordered a bunch from BPS and although the bottles are tiny its well worth it!ย When the polish is exposed to light (A lamp works great) for even 1 minute it glows bright but will fade into a soft white glow that remains all night. The Glow is amplified if you apply a top coat. I found all these polishes have a good chip resistance. But sadly it behaves like a Glitter polish and took me a good 10 minutes to remove it completely.

For the Picture above the swatches are from left to right: BK 09, BK 13, BK 02 and BK 06

BK 13

This is the Pink polish, it glows Orange.

BK 02

This is the Yellow polish and it glows Yellow

And Lastly

This is the Purple Polish, it Glows White.

I have previously done a post on the Blue Polish, you can find that here.

MTV Nail Challenge 3. Yellow & Animal Print

mtv-challengeOk so immediately I love this challenge. Animal Print is one of the easier techniques out there and you can make mistakes as no animal print is Identical to the next! (So nobody would know you made a mistake anyway)

I took the opportunity to do this challenge using my glow in the dark polishes as I have not had a chance to play with them yet.

Nail Polishes Used

For the Mani I used:

Essence Colour & Go 144 Black Is Back

Textured Drip Mani’s

So yesterday I showed you the Textured Polish. Today I give you the Nail Art done using the Texture polish and a few others.

First I did a Textured Glow drip Mani!

Texture & Drips

Texture & Drips

It looks pretty plain right? Well then you turn off the lights…

Glowing Drips

Glowing Drips

Excuse the quality of the pic, it was the only one that didn’t blur…

Pretty cool right?

I used China Glaze Unrefined & BK Glow #13ย (I still need to swatch this) to get the look.

Drip Mani

Drip Mani

For this mani I used China Glaze In the Rough as the Base colour and China Glaze Unrefined for the drips. I painted the drips a bit thick so it took a while to dry so I took a picture of it semi dry.

So I can now tick Drip Mani’s off my to do list.

Have you done a drip mani?

I would love to see it!

Glow In The Dark Polish

So I have always wanted funky glow in the dark polish. I ordered a bottle from Born Pretty Store last month as a little treat and was really excited when it arrived!

I chose colour #6 because I am a bit of a teal freak and I love how the colour looks on my nails.

#6 Glowing Polish

#6 Glowing Polish

Its a beautiful colour during the day and a freaky/funky colour at night. I love it! I had it on my nails for 5 days before I removed it, that’s a record for me as I change my nails daily.

When the polish is exposed to light (A lamp works great) for even 1 minute it glows bright green but slowly fades to a soft white. It remains glowing all night (I assume so I wasn’t planning on staying awake to check hehe).

Also I noticed that even after washing dishes and general use of my hands it has a great chip resistance! It only started chipping on day 4 and I had not put any kind of Base or Top coat on it.

The only thing I struggle with was when I wanted to remove it. It behaves like a Glitter polish and took me a good 10 minutes to remove it completely.

I have no other complaints and cannot wait to get the rest of the colours!!!
