Swatch Stick Project *Pic Heavy

Hello everyone 😀

Today I have something really exciting to show you… Well it was really exciting for me hehe!

I bought a bunch of swatch sticks so that I could have an easy reference system for my polishes.

400 Swatch Sticks

400 Swatch Sticks

I started by getting all my polishes in 1 pile and over the weeks as a polish was swatched it would be packed away so that I didn’t swatch it again (Lets just say I did double swatch a few… Wasn’t impressed!)

Polish Chaos

I didn’t really have any pattern in my swatching process, I literally just pulled up random polishes and went for it.

Most of the swatch sticks are 2 coats except the glitters and the very translucent colours.

The Swatch Line

I did one coat on each let them dry and then started again. I had to leave them to dry overnight so they wouldn’t get damaged.

Colour Coding

Colour Coding

My all time favorite part of the whole project was colour coding the swatches. I only had 8 rings to work with so it was a challenge to sit and sort them. I am slightly OCD in the sense that everything has to be colour coded! Even my clothes & shoes are colour coded!

Glitter Swatches

What I love is now I can see what colours I need… For example I dont have any Black or White Glitter polishes… Now I need those lol! And I have very little Chunky Glitter polishes.

Black, Grey & Silver Swatches

Orange & Red Swatches

Pink Swatches

The project as a whole was really fun! I did it to help alleviate the clutter in my room, I now know what I have and where it is.

Someone asked me what is the purpose of the sticks if I dont do other peoples nails… Well it helps see what colours are similar and which colours compliment each other. It will help to decide what colours to use for nail art too.

Now each time I get a new polish (or polishes) I can swatch it and slot it in where it belongs.

How do you keep track of your polishes?

I have a spreadsheet on google docs (see here) but I also have a Nail polish app that catalogues polishes by brand and then colour (I’m still busy adding pics to it, see app here {This app is for Android phones}) & now the swatch sticks too.

Like I have said before, there is loads of admin linked to Nail art blogging, these tools just make it so much easier to manage it all!

I hope you enjoyed this and got a few tips & idea’s for your own collections!

Mr Price Nail Wraps

Lets jump right into it shall we?

So after trying the Bundle Monster Foils, see here. I had to explore further.

I am big on saving and so I tried to find an alternative that was affordable and local… In comes Mr Price, its all in the name!

I struggled with the application of these, they were so thin and no matter how hard I tried I couldn’t prevent them from creasing.

You can buy these online or in-store.

So that ends my venture into foils for the week. I put them to rest for now but who knows what the future will bring…

Bundle Monster Nail Wraps… Continued

Hello dear followers,

Today I have the rest of the Bundle Monster Tribal foils for you to drool over.

Previously I had only posted about the on set, see here.

I tried to get better at it but some foils just seem to have a mind of their own.

2013 111

These reminded me of snake skin, they felt pretty cool and look fantastic.

2013 114

2013 117

2013 119

I have cursed pinkies, by that I mean they are tiny and the smallest size foil does not fit! I was too much of a chicken to start cutting them to size out of fear that I would ruin  them. On top of that I seemed to be unable to make them not crinkle, some didn’t but others just would not fit right!

All in all I love the concept, not a fan of application.

As for lifespan… They irritated the hell out me, they just felt foreign to me and i played with them until the tips came lose then just peeled them off. #fail

What is your opinion?

Bundle Monster Tribal Nail Effects

A short while ago I won a Bundle Monster Giveaway on Twitter and got to choose a set of their Nail Effects Stripes.

I must be honest in the fact that I have always been a bit of a skeptic when it came to nail foils, I felt it was the easy/lazy way of getting pretty nails but to be fair I have come to the understanding that not every person on the planet has time or patience to do full on nail art and have since changed my opinion.

Nail foils give an awesome look that sometimes even the best artists out there couldn’t achieve.

In the set you get 5 different patterns with 12 “stickers” of various sizes to fit your nails.

Bundle Monster 005

It comes in a single pack like this.

Bundle Monster 006And contains 5 awesome patterns

Bundle Monster 007 Bundle Monster 008 Bundle Monster 011 Bundle Monster 010 Bundle Monster 009Obviously as you can see, I chose to use the middle set.

Tribal Master Piece

As you can see there is some skill required when applying these beauties… I skill that I have yet to Nail ;P

Its basically like covering school books in sticky plastic but on a much smaller scale.

I have some refining to do.

What do you think of these? Have you ever tried using foils before?

Cheat Sheet- Textured Polish!

Hello Hello,

I have been obsessed with textured polish since I saw the Zoya Pixie Dust Swatches.

They are only being released in South Africa now so as you can imagine the suspense is killer!

To aid my lusting soul I decided to try a few things and see if I could make my own textured look…

I got is so right!

I started with a base coat of Essence Colour & Go 125 Absolutly Blue.

Then while the polish was still wet, I sprinkled the BPS white glitter (#8) over my nails and waited for them to dry.

:)

🙂

That’s it, such a quick and easy process to create your own textured polish look. If you want to get yourself this glitter, see the “Born Pretty Product of the Week” section in the column to the right ———>
